Maia remembers taking her first ballet class at the age of 7 when her parents realized that she needed an outlet for her abundant amount of energy. Since then, she has enjoyed learning the principles of ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and African at several studios and summer intensives. Before moving to San Diego, she taught creative dance, ballet, and tap to students between the ages of 4-13.

Maia was first introduced to Culture Shock Dance Center in the fall of 2016 when she took her first Cardio Hip Hop class with Anthony Rodriguez. She had so much fun during class that she desired to branch out and discover what else Culture Shock had to offer. This desire led her to take Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Jazz Funk, Burlesque, Grooves, Island Fusion, and Urban Choreography classes. Additionally, she was a member of Shock Army, a multi-generational dance troupe, during its debut season.

In the summer of 2017, Maia became a part of the CSDC Scholarship Program. During that time, she continued to train in an art form that she adored while giving back to the studio that provided her with a safe space to express herself.

Maia is beyond grateful for the opportunity to teach and hopes to share her love of dance with her students.
